Peer Review Process

Jurnal Global Ilmiah is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. Every manuscript submitted to the Jurnal Global Ilmiah for publication must undergo a peer review process by expert reviewers. Peer review in this journal is an evaluation of a paper submitted by two or more individuals who possess equivalent competence to that of the author. This process aims to determine the academic manuscript’s eligibility for publication. The peer review method is used to maintain quality standards and provide credibility to the paper. The peer review process in the Jurnal Global Ilmiah consists of 9 stages, described as follows.

1. Manuscript Submission
   The corresponding author or submitting author sends the manuscript to the journal. This is done through an online system supported by the Open Journal System (OJS). However, to facilitate authors, submissions are temporarily also accepted via email.

2. Editorial Office Assessment
   Every manuscript received is first assessed by the editors of the Jurnal Global Ilmiah. The editors check whether the manuscript fits the focus and scope of the journal. The composition and structure of the paper are evaluated based on the journal’s Author Guidelines to ensure that it includes the required sections and writing style. In addition, the minimum quality criteria required for publication are assessed at this stage, including checking for major methodological flaws. Each manuscript that passes this stage will be screened using Turnitin to identify plagiarism before being reviewed by referees.

3. Chief Editor’s Evaluation
   The Chief Editor examines whether the manuscript is appropriate for the journal, sufficiently original, interesting, and significant to be published. If not, the manuscript may be rejected without further review.

4. Reviewer Invitation
   The handling editor sends invitations to individuals believed to be suitable reviewers (also known as referees) based on their expertise, closeness of research interest, and absence of conflicts of interest. The peer review process in the Jurnal Global Ilmiah involves a community of experts in the narrowly defined fields of humanities and social sciences, contemporary political science, education, religious and philosophical studies, economics, engineering, health sciences, medicine, design arts, and media studies, who are qualified and able to perform impartial reviews. Impartiality is maintained through the double-blind review system used by this journal, meaning that reviewers do not know the authors’ identities and vice versa. Manuscripts are sent to reviewers anonymously.

5. Response to Invitation
   Prospective reviewers consider the invitation based on their expertise, potential conflicts of interest, and time availability. They then decide whether to accept or decline the review. In the invitation letter, the editor may ask a declining reviewer to suggest alternative reviewers.

6. Review Conducted
   Reviewers allocate time to read the manuscript several times. The first reading is used to form an initial impression of the work. If major issues are found at this stage, the reviewer may feel comfortable rejecting the work without further effort. If not, the reviewers will read the paper several more times, making notes to prepare a detailed, point-by-point review. The review is then submitted to the journal with a recommendation to accept, reject, or request revisions (usually categorized as major or minor) before reconsideration.

7. Journal Evaluates the Reviews
   The Chief Editor and managing editors consider all returned reviews before making an overall decision. If the reviews differ significantly, the handling editor may invite an additional reviewer for further opinion before making a decision.

8. Decision Communicated
   The editor sends a decision email to the author along with the relevant reviewer comments. Reviewer comments are sent anonymously to the corresponding author for appropriate action and response. At this stage, reviewers also receive an email or letter informing them of the outcome of their review.

9. Final Steps
   If accepted, the manuscript proceeds to editing. If the article is rejected or returned to the author for major or minor revisions, the handling editor includes constructive comments from reviewers to help the author improve the paper. The author must make corrections and revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ comments and instructions.
   After revision, the author must resubmit the revised paper to the editor.
   If the paper is returned for revision, reviewers must receive the revised version—unless they have opted not to participate further. However, if only minor changes are requested, the follow-up review may be handled by the editor alone.
   If the editor is satisfied with the revised manuscript, it is considered accepted. Using feedback from the peer review process, the editor will make the final publication decision. The review process typically takes about one to two weeks. The decision categories include acceptance; accepted papers will be published online and all made freely available as downloadable PDF files.
